The Demonologist by Andrew Pyper

I first borrowed this book in an audio format, which is something I almost never do. I’ve never enjoyed audio books but I could only find it in this format at the time. I listened to about half of the story before finally having to give up; it wasn’t that the story was bad but rather I kept falling asleep when listening to the descriptions. I managed to get a hold of the hardcover and just finished it today.

Professor David Ullman is an expert on Paradise Lost by Milton and is an authority on demonic literature. However, he has never been a believer of the supernatural. When a Thin Woman comes to his office with a proposition to view a “phenomenon” in Venice, Ullman quickly turns her down. But when he comes home to discover that his marriage has ended and his life is in ruins, David takes his daughter, Tess, with him to Venice. But what happens in Venice will change everything.

I loved this book. It was detailed and gripping and creepy. The language was amazing, the power of the demon was unimaginably scary, and I was biting my nails trying to get to the end as fast as I could. This truly is a wonderful novel and I can’t believe it has taken me so long to read it. I would recommend this to anyone looking for something dark and action-packed that will make you rethink your ideas on demons!

Happy reading ~
